Mission

Our mission is to promote awareness and acceptance in the community for all individuals with Down syndrome (DS). We hope to have individuals of all ages and backgrounds with Down syndrome supported and accepted in their communities.

Goals

**Promote awareness of individuals with DS
**Promote acceptance of individuals with DS
**Provide resources/activities/support for individuals with DS and their families

Achieveing Our Goals

To achieve our first goal, we could put up posters everywhere possible - libraries, schools, gas stations, hospitals, malls - showing facts, pictures and local personal stories. We could also make and sell blankets, bracelets and ribbons.
To achieve goal #2, we would work toward full inclusion of individuals with DS in sports, school activities, and community events. We would also try to make employers aware of individuals with DS and their abilities.
To achieve our third goal, we would have several activities:

**October - Buddy Walk

**October, November, December - Child care for parents who want to shop for the Holidays

**March - World Down Syndrome Day Celebration

**April - Plant A Tree For Me

**May - Bike-a-Thon

**June - Angelfish

**September - Grandparents’ Fun Day

Other activities:

**Holding a DS Awareness Craft Night at a local bookstore - reading “Paint The Octopus Red” and painting an octopus
**‘Cans For DS’ - collecting cans to recycle - the proceeds would go into the local DS Group Fund at ARC Headwaters Bemidji
**‘Dimes For DS’ - put cans/jars in schools/gas stations/local businesses to collect dimes (or other change) for the DS Group Fund
**Holding special dinners for children/individuals who are having surgery or other serious medical issue.

Our Staff

We are currently looking for volunteers to help out in any way they can!  You don't have to have a child/family member with DS to volunteer!
